FAMILY

The swans have cygnets this year. They've never yet managed to raise a family to adulthood and one baby has already been lost this year. Hopefully the remaining two will survive.

The little ones look well guarded. I hope they make it!

Hard to tell if Mum is scolding the kids or berating Dad, experience tells me ......

This is a beautiful family portrait. We've been following the pair of swans that nest at the end of our local pond. It's a dense place, well protected. We're only able to get anywhere near them by taking our kayaks out on the pond. I'm always impressed with how the parents keep the cygnets between them at all times. Ours had four; last count there were three. I suspect Moby Turtle--the HUGE snapper that also resided at that end of the pond--may have made a meal of one of them.

That is very sad, perhaps this time they'll get it right.

no cygnets around here this year and it makes me sad ofcourse. However , in Stockholm there are usually several cygnets surviving through wintertime.
I think this is a great family portrait

The parents do look protective. Hopefully all will be good in the swan world.
